Richard Peirce
Richard Peirce is probably Britain’s best known “shark man”. He is chairman of the Shark Conservation Society and the Shark Trust, the author of ‘Sharks in British Seas’, ‘Sharks off Cornwall & Devon’, and ‘Pirates of Devon & Cornwall’. He made the award winning documentaries ‘Porbeagles in Peril’ and ‘Sharks in British Seas’, and has three new films in production, ‘Thank you for democracy’, ‘The Worlds Richest Sharks’ and ‘Sharks Adventures’.
In the last six years his programmes on Radio 4, and numerous TV appearances, as well as his regular work in the talk circuit has made him a well known figure. Surviving Sharks is an often hilarious journey into the life of one of Britain’s leading shark experts. How did Richard get into sharks? How does he stay out of them? What makes a sane (maybe) person want to swim with sharks? What close calls has he had? It’s all in his new fast forty minute after dinner talk – and that’s only the sharks in the sea!
Richard is also one of Britain’s noted Middle East experts. He survived the civil war in Lebanon in which his wife’s hairdresser was a collector of human ears, he sent condolences to the family of a head of State who wasn’t dead (twice), The Emir of Kuwait, King Hussein, a Druze warlord, war exploits, and Yasser Arafat, they are all there and it’s all true.
